Spain 2009

September 9 - 16, 2009.
With only one week and such a large country we decided to concentrate on just one city. We chose Barcelona.
To be honest, we chose it mainly because we had watched the movie "Vicky Christina Barcelona" last year and we were completely intrigued!! The music, the attitude...the architecture!!! When we arrived, we were NOT disappointed!!!
Barcelona is an amazing, beautiful, bustling city!! 4 million people live in and around Barcelona. It is a large city with so much to see!
We had planned to take a few day trips outside the city, but once there we quickly realized that we wanted to spend more time there and soak up all that we could!
We spent 5 days exploring Barcelona, mostly on foot, wandering the streets in awe of the spectacular architecture, sauntering along the waterfront and beach, strolling through the many plazas and squares filled with people, sights and sounds!
We had heard of the architect Gaudi but were not very familiar with his work. We had heard that people either love it or hate it.
Well, we LOVED it and thought he was a genius! Seeing his work was a highlight of the trip!
We did take one day to venture outside the city. We took a train to the ancient town of Girona, about an hour northeast of Barcelona.
The weather was gloomy that day, but it was a wonderful little town!
So, these are just some of the photos I took to try to capture the essence of these places.
Hope you enjoy them!
