Miami & Key West 2011

February 10-17, 2011
To celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary we decided to do an easy, beat-the-winter-blues trip with a week in Florida.
We spent 2 days in Miami, soaking up the Latin ambiance and exploring the different styles and atmospheres of Miami Beach, Coral Gables and Coconut Grove.
Next, as we drove down to Key West, we made a brief stop at Everglades National Park for just a couple of hours and got to see some interesting wildlife.
We continued on down the Overseas Highway, through all the Florida Keys to mile marker zero: Key West!
Spent 4 fun, laid back days exploring this funky, quirky town, enjoying the food, music and warm sunshine! We also took a seaplane flight out to the Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson National Park (70 miles west of Key West)! This was a really cool experience and the views were spectacular!
Here are just some of our favorite photos...enjoy!

    Awesome views from the seaplane!
Almost 70 miles west of Key West lies a cluster of seven islands, composed of coral reefs and sand, called the Dry Tortugas. Along with the surrounding shoals and waters, they make up Dry Tortugas National Park.
A large military fortress, Fort Jefferson, was constructed in the mid-19th century in effort for the United States to protect the extremely lucrative shipping channel.
