Iceland 2013

This year for our summer vacation we decided to venture way north...to Iceland!
At 66 degrees North, in July it gets nearly 20 hours of daylight, it's a relatively short hop from Boston (less than a 5 hour flight) and has some of the most unusual and astonishing natural beauty we've ever seen!!
Iceland is about the size of Kentucky, with a population of only about 320,000.
It's interior is mainly made up of volcanoes and glaciers therefore there aren't really any main (or paved) roads that dissect the island.
We did the Iceland visitor's quintessential road trip...driving Route 1, the "Ring Road" that circles the island country of ice and fire.
It is 830 miles of stunning sights.....jagged, ancient lava fields, steaming geothermal pools, spewing geysers and boiling mud pots, thundering waterfalls, massive glaciers melting into lagoons of azure-blue icebergs....black sand beaches and rugged fjords....Atlantic puffins nesting on sea cliffs, the unique and pony-sized Icelandic horse.
We spent 7 days and logged over 1,200 miles exploring the Ring Road and it's offshoots and had an unforgettable time in this magical country!
